Biography of Presenters (alphabetical order)

Clara Burgo (Loyola University Chicago)

Clara Burgo is Assistant Professor of Spanish and Director of the Spanish language program at Loyola University. She graduated from her Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2008. Her current and teaching interests are service learning and Spanish for Heritage Speakers.

Guada Cabedo-Timmons (Western Illinois University)

Guada Cabedo-Timmons is Associate Professor of Spanish at Western Illinois University and received a PhD in Spanish Literature from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2004. She is a native of Spain.

Berta Carrasco (Hope College)

Berta Carrasco's research interests focus on Spanish women's writing, especially during times of incarceration. She also loves teaching and researching in the language classroom, particularly the use of technology.

Claudia Fernández (Knox College)

Claudia Fernández is Associate Professor of Spanish and Linguistics at Knox College. She is particularly interested in research and materials development in the area of grammar acquisition.

Carol Goss (Valparaiso University)

Carol Goss (MA, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) has worked at Valparaiso University as the Language Resource Center Director since 1996. Valparaiso’s recently constructed building for the College of Arts and Sciences includes a new Language Resource Center. Carol oversaw the planning process for the new center that opened its doors two years ago. Carol teaches first year French at Valparaiso and is active in IFLTA, managing the website and regularly presenting at its annual conference.

Maja Grgurovic (University of Illinois at Chicago)

Maja Grgurovic is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Chicago where she teaches in the MA TESOL Program. Maja's research interests are computer-assisted language learning, blended learning, and teacher education.

Casilde Isabelli (University of Nevada, Reno)

Casilde A. Isabelli is Interim Department Chair and Associate Professor of Spanish (Linguistics). In 2001, she received her Ph.D. in Spanish Applied Linguistics with a certificate in Second Language Acquisition and Teacher Education (SLATE) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Her research concerns adult second language acquisition in the formal classroom and study-abroad setting, multilingualism, and pedagogy. She was also the Director of the Basic Spanish Language Program 2000-2014.

Marlene Johnshoy (Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition, University of Minnesota)

Marlene Johnshoy is the Online Education Program Director and Web Manager at the Center for Advanced Research in Language Acquisition (CARLA), University of Minnesota. She is particularly interested in the professional development needed for teaching languages online and has a collection of information available on the CARLA website. She has given numerous online, regional, and national workshops on many aspects of web-based language teaching and learning.

Stacey Johnson (Hope College)

Stacey Margarita Johnson teaches Spanish, ESL, and Methods at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Her research interests include online/hybrid teaching, adult learning, and second/foreign language education.

Carmen López-Ferrero (Pompeu Fabra University)

Carmen López Ferrero is Spanish Language and Discourse Analysis teacher at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Barcelona, since 1993. She is graduated on Spanish Philology (Language) and she has received her doctorate on Philosophy and Sciences of Education at Barcelona University. She has carried out research and has published various books and articles on Discourse Analysis, Text Linguistics, Written Communication and Spanish Language Learning as L1 and L2. She’s taking part in scientific research projects financed by governmental and competitive convocations. She’s member of the Languages Learning and Teaching Research Grup (GR@EL: http://www.upf.edu/grael/es/) at the UPF.

Claire Moisan (Grinnell College)

Claire Moisan is a Senior Lecturer in French and Director of the Alternate Language Study Option (ALSO) at Grinnell College. She has been working with international students to develop learning modules in the College's Learning Management System that will be used in a blended self-instructional/peer tutoring format.

Haydee Taylor-Arnold (Ladue Horton Watkins High School)

I am a native from Panama and I am a Spanish teacher at Ladue Horton Watkins High School in St. Louis, Missouri. I earned a M.A. in Teaching from Lindenwood University in 2007 and a M.A. in Spanish Literature from Washington University in St. Louis in 2010. I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at Saint Louis University. I love teaching Spanish to my students and I am passionate about the field of second language acquisition.

Anibal M Sánchez (University of Illinois, Springfield)

I am a native from Panama and I am a Spanish teacher at Ladue Horton Watkins High School in St. Louis, Missouri. I earned a M.A. in Teaching from Lindenwood University in 2007 and a M.A. in Spanish Literature from Washington University in St. Louis in 2010. I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at Saint Louis University. I love teaching Spanish to my students and I am passionate about the field of second language acquisition.
